Packaging Comparator

Two packaging options for the same job? Enter the number of packages and each option’s unit package weight, and get packaging tonnes, production + freight CO₂ and recycling context. You supply the pack weights; verified factors and caveats shown. No “greenest packaging” score.

How the comparison works — and its limits

Packaging tonnes = unit pack weight × number of packages. Production CO₂ = packaging mass × the verified cradle-to-gate factor for each material. Freight CO₂ uses the same tonne-kilometre method and factors as the Freight CO₂ calculator. Recycling context is the EU/CEPI packaging recycling rate for each material — shown as context, not netted into the production figure. This is a same-function comparison because you enter the real pack weights for each option; it is still not a full packaging LCA (it excludes filling, use-phase, secondary packaging and end-of-life credits) and the two materials often use different LCA methods, so caveats are shown. MatQuo never declares a winner.
